The reason I'm asking if anyone has ever tried fried tost is because it's really good. Just put a bit of butter in a pan and heat it until it melts, then put your bread in the pan. Flip it when the first side is crispy and then do the other side. There is no amount of time you have to let it fry up. It is up to the person cooking it. Be sure the butter is evenly distributed throughout the pan before adding the bread. Sour dough is a good kind of bread to use, but use whatever. Once it's done, enjoy. I'd like to know people's oppinions on this.

I eat that every once in a while.
For a change, it's good to add a pinch of whatever spice you like, or minced garlic, or things of that nature to the butter.

It's a standard part of an all day breakfast served in cafes all over the UK.
I think it's ok, but would rather have standard toast than what we call fried bread.

Fried bread rocks! But regular toast is good as well. Here's a good tip. When making french toast, however you may vary the recipe, use butter in the pan instead of olive oil or pam etc. It comes out great!

its great! Use a little bacon grease and it really comes out yummy, too. Put an egg iwht a soft yolk on top of it and you've got a great breakfast.

Speaking of fried dough, if you make your own bread you can drop the dough balls in to hot oil, split when done and pour honey butter over the top. Eat with a huge glass of milk and your best hillbilly accent, fried dough was what we called scones. Told yall i'm weird.

The way you describe your toast making in the original post is the way I make grill cheese sandwiches. I love to cook. *GRIN*

Hi everyone! I'm an older fart now with high cholesterol, borderline diabetes and blood pressure that loves to reach for the stars, but back in the good young days I used to use one of those egg rings to fry an egg in a skillet nice and well done. Then, I would slap it between two pieces of whole grain bread with a piece of Swiss and ham, coat both sides of the sandwich with butter, and fry that rascal in a small pan. Throw some Cajun Creole seasoning on it and you have yourself 800 calories of heaven. If you really want to do yourself in, chase it with a quart of chocolate milk!

I have been eating fried bread for years. I accidentally buttered both sides of the same piece of bread when I was getting ready to make grilled cheese one day so I just threw it in the pan and fried it up. I love it! and I have always cooked french toast in butter. The same with my pancakes. I make silver dollar pancakes so they are small and the edges get crispy. Yum!

I don't know if this has allready been mentioned or not, but how are you supposed to see if the first side of the toast is fried if you can't see anything?

That sounds really good, maybe I should try it? Hmm. I think a good thing to do to see if one side of the bread is to just use a metal spatula--I'm not really sure.
